Scott Lang

Candidate for Vice President

I have served in various positions for NYC ACM SIGGRAPH over the last 29 years. Currently I am Vice-Chair and in this role I plan and organize the events for the chapter. I also serve as Executive Producer for the ACM SGGRAPH SCOOP Team. Finally, at last year's SIGGRAPH Conference, I was awarded the ACM SIGGRAPH Outstanding Service Award for my work within the organization.

In my "day job", I teach at the Bergen County Academies, a public, magnet high school in northern New Jersey. I am the school's video production and animation instructor. I also manage our TV Studio. Over the last two years, I have been running a class called Interactive Design. In this class, students have the chance to work in disciplines such as game development, Arduino programming, Processing, 3D printing, and augmented / virtual reality using Oculus Rift headsets.

I have served on the NYC ACM SIGGRAPH Board of Directors for many years and it continues to be a very exciting and rewarding volunteer experience. Planning and implementing events for our chapter is a terrific way to share my enthusiasm for computer graphics and interactive techniques with others. Over the last year, we have seen our membership more than double and our activities have played a big part in making that happen. Whether it is our monthly BYOA gatherings or a major event like Industry Spotlight or MetroCAF, every activity has the potential to inspire. If elected, I will continue to develop stimulating events for our chapter members and the NYC digital media community. One new step I'd like to take is to survey our members not only for topic suggestions but also for any possible connections they may have for speakers and presenters. I'd also like to see about collaborating with other organizations that might have similar interests as NYC ACM SIGGRAPH. I hope you will give me the chance to continue as NYC ACM SIGGRAPH Vice-Chair.
