NYIT & The Birth of Digital Cinema with Tom Sito

Without computer graphics imagery (CGI), the Titanic in the movie could not sink, the armies of Mordor could not march. We would never know Lara Croft, Mario, Buzz Lightyear, Shrek or the Naavi. Yet few know that years before anyone ever heard of Pixar, researchers at the Old Westbury Campus were creating the tools that made all these digital marvels possible. Prof. Tom Sito of USC, author of Moving Innovation, a History of Computer Animation, will trace the origins of Hollywood's digital revolution back to an audacious experiment in Old Westbury in the mid-1970s.

Speaker
Tom Sito, Professor & Chair of John C. Hench Division of Animation & Digital ArtsThe School of Cinematic Arts, USC
